How Knowing Your BANK Code Changed How I Communicate

Once I understood my personality blueprint, every sales conversation, every relationship, and every pitch became dramatically more effective.

I used to think I was a good communicator. I was articulate, enthusiastic, and genuinely cared about the people I was talking to. But I kept running into the same wall: I'd have a conversation that felt great to me, and the other person would walk away uninterested. What was I missing?

The Problem With One-Size-Fits-All Communication

The answer, I eventually discovered, was that I was communicating in my language — not theirs. I was leading with what mattered to me: the big vision, the excitement, the potential. But not everyone is motivated by those things. Some people need data. Some need relationships. Some need stability. And some — like me — need the big picture.

BANK is a personality science system built on four codes: Blueprint, Action, Nurturing, and Knowledge. Each person has a primary code that drives their decisions, their values, and the way they receive information. When you speak to someone in their code, everything changes.

What My Code Revealed

My primary code is Action. I'm motivated by results, speed, and winning. I get bored with details. I want to know the bottom line. Once I understood that, I realized why I'd been losing people who were Blueprint types — they needed structure, process, and proof before they could move forward. I was skipping all of that.

I also realized why I connected so naturally with other Action types. We speak the same language. We move fast, we trust our gut, we make decisions quickly. But that same energy can feel overwhelming or reckless to someone who needs more time and information.

The Practical Shift

Once I started identifying other people's codes — which you can do in about 90 seconds with the right questions — my conversations transformed. With Blueprint types, I slow down, lead with data, and give them time to process. With Nurturing types, I focus on relationships and impact. With Knowledge types, I go deep on the details and the 'why.'

My close rate in business conversations went up. My relationships got deeper. My team communication got clearer. All because I stopped assuming everyone thinks the way I do.
